2009-2010

Total: 2-5-0
6th in Division 2 South

All good things come to an end. The Stallions learnt this even before the 2009 season kicked off.

After going the past 2 seasons undefeated in the division a glut of graduations had left them with a threadbare squad with limited experience to go with it – thankfully a successful recruitment drive brought in many new faces and, with it, some very promising prospects.

The first half of the season was disappointing on the whole with defeats against Sheffield Hallam Warriors, Leeds Celtics and Derby Braves before Christmas left them 0-3.

The Christmas break spurred the side on though and the team secured their first victory of the year with a hard-fought 4-0 win over Leicester, with the Stallions defence able to shut down the high-scoring Longhorns offence and win with 2 Safeties.

Nottingham were next up on the cards and it was another hard-fought game on both sides of the ball but the small travelling Stallions contingent fell to another defeat at the hands of the Outlaws.

Liverpool Fury were the next team to take on the Stallions and a five-Touchdown performance meant the Staffordshire side brushed them aside with relative ease and notched up their second win of the season, albeit a slight more convincing this time round.

In the final game of the year the Stallions travelled to Loughborough on a Wednesday night and put in a credible performance, something which the final score didn’t reflect as Loughborough’s superior numerical advantage showed.

It was a performance that showed a lot of hearts from the relatively inexperienced side and they will be hoping to start the 2010 season in a much better fashion and push on from what has been a rebuilding year for the once-College Bowl finalists.

1st in BUAFL North Midlands Division

The 2007-2008 season began with a new chapter in student football. With the closure of the BSAFA and the student league during the close season saw the formation of the new British Universities American Football League (B.U.A.F.L) the official student body of BAFA.~

New student body brought old rivalries together as Staffordshire, Loughborough, Derby, Nottingham and Leicester became apart of the BUAFL North Midlands Division with the addition of Lincoln. Over the next 21 weeks saw the Stallions return to the National final known as the National Championship Game where the Stallions lost to Southampton Stags 54-20.

During the road to the National Championship Game the Stallions went a perfect 8-0 in the regular season for the first time in the teams history, advanced to the second round with ease with a 60-6 victory over UT Cougars before defeating Leeds 19-0 at the Stables. The Stallions then travelled to Newcastle for a place in the National Championship Game beating the Raiders 34-28 in a thrilling battle between the best two teams in the North.

2006-2007

Total: 4-3-1
2nd in BCAFL Southern Conference Central Division

As the 2006-2007 season approached the team spirit needed to be high. Off season developments had already seen many BCAFL teams and observers to British American Football write the Staffordshire Stallions off.

After clinching the Northern Western division the season prior, the Stallions were expecting to defend the title against divisional rivals Sheffield Sabres, Sheffield Hallam Warriors and Lancaster Bombers. However that was not the case.

Instead of defending the title, the Stallions changed Conference as well as division bemusing many.

What lay ahead was going to be a difficult season. Birmingham, Oxford, Warwick and Aberystwyth were divisional opponents in the Southern Central, and the Stallions also had to battle against former foes Sheffield Hallam Warriors and Derby Braves, as well as face Cardiff.

The upcoming 10 weeks were going to be a challenge, something that Staffordshire would never back down from. The Staffordshire Stallions season was marked by whelming victories and searing defeats, which ultimately led to their elimination from the 2007 BCAFL Play-Offs.

They enjoyed a very successful first half of the season that put the team in pole position for a playoff spot at the end of the regular season. Ben Rowan had led them to a record of 3-1, a fate that no one had seen the Stallions of achieving in their first season as part of the South.

The Stallions going into Christmas were right on the heels of Divisional rivals Birmingham Lions, who were 4-1 and top of the South-Central.

Nevertheless, the Stallions failed to pick up from where they left off in 2006. In 2007 they lost to both Cardiff and Birmingham, drew to Derby by declaration and unconvincingly beat former rivals Sheffield Hallam Warriors.

In the end, it came down to the first game and final game of the season. Stallions needed to beat Birmingham to guarantee play off football, but a loss would all but end their hopes of playing in the post season.

Staffordshire narrowly lost to Birmingham (20-14) in what could be seen as the teams' best performance of the season. With themselves and Brighton both 4-3-1 the tie break came down to common opponents. This time Stallions opening weekend opponents Oxford was the key.

No one connected to the Stallions organisation thought that the game in week 1 would have such a big outcome ten weeks down the line, but it gives everyone the harsh reminder that every second of every game counts.

Staffordshire never got into the game. Offensive mistakes often stopped drives as Running Back Martin Tranter fumbled several times and with the Defence tiring Oxford score three touchdowns in five fourth quarter minutes shell shocking the Stallions.

Brighton narrowly beat Oxford 12-7 the following week.

This meant Brighton took the eighth and final spot in the Southern Play Offs, meaning Staffordshire had to face Aberystwyth in the Plate competition.

Along the way, many individuals enjoyed a successful season. Ben Rowan got his first career win as starting Quarterback against Aberystwyth in week 3, Richard Walker was the outstanding receiver who got his first touchdown reception in the 24-6 victory over the Warwick Wolves and Martin Tranter continued to be a key in the Staffordshire Offence.

Rookies James Walker, Nick Pryce and Peter Crawley made an impact at Wide Receiver, Kicker and Linebacker respectively. Whilst returning players Graham Roberts, Peter Buckley and Rob Pickerill showed their leadership by continuing to make big plays on both sides of the ball.

The Stallions were also strengthen by the return of Chris Ward who was apart of the College Bowl XVIII team. His presence as part of the team was crucial in the campaign as Ward played at both Defensive End and Tight End throughout the season.

2005-2006

Total: 5-2-1
1st in BCAFL Northern Conference Western Division

The 2005 season saw the Staffordshire Stallions improve slightly with a 5-2-1 record becoming the North Western Division Champions in the process. Staffordshire defeated every team in the North Western Division, but had a 0-2-1 record against out of division opponents, which saw the team suffer their second worst defeat at the hands of Bath Killer Bees(60-27), a tie against Tarannau Aberystwyth and a defeat against Derby in the final regular season game.

In the playoffs the Stallions managed to beat Leeds 6-0 as the Staffordshire defence stood firm against an agressive Leeds offence before failing to take advance of a 6 point lead against the Teeside Cougars who later became Northern Champions.

After the greatest season in Stallions history several key players from the defence and offence had played their final game for the team and saying farewell in the process. The Stallions had to start rebuilding as they Northern Champions tried to get back to the playoffs.

The Stallions just managed to scrape into the post season after their schedule proved difficult having to face the National Champions Hertfordshire at the Stables and travel to former divisional rivals Loughborough.

A trip to Glasgow in the playoffs provded too much as the Stallions marginally lost to the Tigers.
